Our students then learnt about Alternative and Augmentative Communication with volunteer Libby Brownlie, a former long term AVI volunteer and program coordinator at UPNT. Libby tells us what took place during her week in Vietnam.
“We’ve had one week of AAC teaching at UPNT and the students have engaged in a range of practical exercises. They had the experience of having to communicate a message without speech and many found that they relied on hand-drawn pictures as well as a range of natural gestures. They consolidated their understanding of the levels of communication with a line-up activity which generated a great deal of conversation, and not a small amount of argument!
We also had the pleasure and privilege of having the wonderful Ms Duong Phuong Hanh come in to the university for two afternoons to teach the students Vietnamese signs (for using Key Word Sign) We then finished with a song”
Our database contains the locations of over 33 speech therapists and clinics located in Vietnam.
