Graduate from last year’s Paediatric Speech Therapy Course Hien Do reports on the further study she is doing at the University of Birmingham.
“My name is Hien Do, a manager of Special Needs Education Programme at Saigonchildren(TM), an international Non-Governmental Organisation. And I am also an alumnus of the Speech-Language Therapy course 2016 – 2017. In 2017, I was privileged to obtain the Chevening Scholarship, a scholarship for future leaders/influencers, to take the Autism (Children) Master course at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. Through further study, I hope to deepen my knowledge of effective interventions and learn more about developing communication and language for children with Autism. Moreover, I hope that I will be able to develop links with professionals who will assist me in developing curriculum and training materials for use in Vietnam.
My intention after finishing the course, in the end of 2018, is to continue to lead the Special Needs Education Programme at Saigonchildren(TM) to develop better education services for children with Autism. I plan to collaborate with the Universities and Colleges of Education to develop the curriculum for the Undergraduate Graduate Course on Early Intervention for Children with Autism. Furthermore, I also have an ambition to work together with the Vietnam Institute of Education and Science to establish protocols and guidelines in providing education services for children with Autism. Finally, I aim to undertake more academic research in order to further my knowledge as well as to contribute to develop more literature resource in the field of autism for Vietnamese practitioners.”
