In September Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy hosted a workshop for first year Bachelor of Rehabilitation students about the profession of Speech and Language Therapy. Professor Lindy McAllister (TFA Director and Senior Technical Advisor for the SALT Development Project in Vietnam), Dr Cao Bich Thuy (Medical Doctor, SLT and Head of Rehabilitation at the University) and Ms Sarah Day (Australian Volunteer SLP at the University) worked together to present the workshop to new students, introducing them to SLP. The Rehabilitation students will have the opportunity to chose the SLP stream at the beginning of the new academic year in 2019. The USAid-funded project team expect a cohort of between 25-30 Bachelor students to join and graduate from the SLP stream in mid-2022.
Dr Nguyen Hoang Oanh (Medical Doctor and SLP at National Hospital of Odonto – Stomatology in Hanoi, and PhD Candidate at Hanoi Medical University) and Mr Le Khanh Dien (Physiotherapist and SLP at An Binh Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, and PhD Candidate at University of Newcastle) agreed to share their experiences with the new Rehabilitation students via video. Both Dr Oanh and Mr Dien were asked to discuss their experiences working as a SLP in Vietnam and what they love about working as an SLP. They agreed to share their videos with TFA also.
