The success of all of our volunteers in Vietnam are critically dependent on accurate, consistent and fluent interpreting (for spoken communication) and translation (for written materials) between Vietnamese and English – in both directions.
Interpreting and translating in the topic of speech therapy is extremely specialized, and there are many English terms related to speech therapy that most interpreters in Vietnam would not be familiar with.
We have been fortunate up to now in working with incredibly skilled and dedicated interpreters and translators. To ensure sustainability for our future developments in Vietnam, we decided to support the creation of training courses specifically designed for interpreters and translators to learn about the area of speech therapy.
Our first training course for interpreters and translators started in April 2015, and is sponsored by a grant from Speech Pathology Australia (SPA), the national peak body for the speech pathology profession in Australia.
We have also created the very first specialized Speech Therapy Glossary of Terms, in the Vietnamese language to support interpreters and translators. It is currently in booklet form and can accessed here.
Our database contains the locations of over 33 speech therapists and clinics located in Vietnam.
